Pomegranates

The pomegranates are fruits that belong to the Punicaceae family, which only includes two species, being the second one little known about.

The tasty pomegranate fruit is a good source of fibre, as well as vitamins C, K, B, and minerals such as calcium, potassium and iron.

AVAILABILITY
The pomegranate’s season is relatively short compared to other vegetables. They are harvested between the months of September and November.

FLAVOUR AND TEXTURE
Only the seeds with their sweet and sour taste are edible. Specifically, pomegranate seeds can vary in flavour from very sweet or a bit sour, to quite strong depending on the variety and degree of ripening. Pomegranates have a juicy, crisp and refreshing texture.

SIZE AND COLOUR
The thick peel of pomegranates can display a wide range of colours: yellow, green, pink, red or deep purple. The colour of the aril (juicy part that covers the seed) varies from white to deep red.
This fruit has a medium size, 5-12 diameter with a rounded shape and a thick peel.
